3021 (3921), Diesel locomotive V200
The locomotive 3021 is quite old, this piece is most likely from early 60's. I think that my father bought this somewhere around 1962-1964. While making the conversion my son detected, that the locomotive is originally 3921 construction set.
Text from Märklin catalog:
Diesel locomotives of the V 200 Class are used on the German Federal Railways to replace steam engines. The V 200 is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive with two engines, each developing 1000 HP. The locomotive is designed for a speed of 140 kilometres (approximately 87 miles) an hour and is used for express services.
Märklin US catalog from year 1957 tells us the following:
The V200 diesel locomotive is being adopted more and more by German Federal railways to replace steam engines. The V200 is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive with two engines each developing 1000 H.P. It is built fir maximum speed of 88 m.p.h (140 kilometres per hour) and us used chiefly for express services.

The conversion to digital is fully supported according to Märklin. There were no problems detected at all during the actual conversion.
MFX decoder
Locomotive 3021 "V 200" conversion was made with Mfx decoder kit 60924.

Replacing reverse unit with Mfx decoder
| The wires to lamps caused a bit problem. I first just used the shortest route to lamp, but an metal edge in the cover cuts the wires while putting the locomotive cover into its place, and this may cause a short circuit. Lamp leads must go through the small round hole!. | |

ESU mfx decoder and new illumination system
Because of most of my Märklin 60923 decoders stopped suddendly working after a short circuit, I changed the decoder to ESU LokPilot 3.0 mfx decoder, product id 61600. While making the decoder change I also added new lighting system to this locomotive. A new red led was added next to headlights for reversing, and a white led was put as cabin light. I also tried a red light fo cabin light, but currently it is too dim.
